Chevrolet just debuted the 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison - a beefed up version of the already impressive Colorado ZR2. The new Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison stands bigger and wider than its predecessor, making it the most capable midsize truck.

Chevy’s new pickup features Multimatic suspension hardware with upgrades like the Multimatic front and rear jounce control dampers and power-locking front and rear differentials. The pickup becomes even more capable with the addition of special American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) accessories and segment-exclusive all-terrain tires, lending to its rugged, eye-catching style.

Even with its upgrades, the Bison edition stays true to its ZR2 name. Under the hood, the 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output powertrain comes standard, giving you 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. With the Bison’s 5,500-pound tow rating, you’ll be able to haul everything you need for your next off-road adventure.

Aggressive Bison Look

The Colorado ZR2 Bison’s aggressive stance will certainly stand out from any crowd. The new Bison appears larger and tougher in stature than its competition, like the 2024 Toyota Tacoma Trail Hunter or the 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor. Its exclusive AEV equipment, including its wider fender flares, full-width steel front bumper, and rear bumper with steel corner plates, gives the new Bison an aggressive, ready-for-anything look and feel.

What truly makes the 2024 Colorado ZR2 Bison a standout is its tires. Chevy’s midsize monster pickup boasts 17-inch AEV beadlock-capable wheels wrapped in segment-exclusive 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory Mud/Terrain tires. This set of wheels allows the truck to stand 1.5 inches higher than its ZR2 counterpart, with a slight suspension lift adding to the height.

The Bison’s front and rear tracks are almost an inch wider than the ZR2, coming in at 66.3 inches. Under the truck, you’ll see five underbody Boron steel skid plates, covering the fuel tank and the rear differentials for extra protection on tougher terrains. In addition, a set of steel rock rails come standard on the new Bison model.

Off-Road Upgrades

The 2024 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison comes equipped with front and rear stamped steel bumper from AEV, with two recovery eyelets on the rear and the front bumper coming with winch capabilities. While Chevy kept the same type of Multimatic spool-valve dampers as the regular ZR2, they revamped them to handle the Bison’s extra mass. These dampers have been re-tuned for the new Bison model have three different positions based on your travel and it's been equipped with a heavier front spring rate to accommodate the winch and the weight of the bumper.

The truck’s power and torque are evenly distributed with the power-locking front and rear differentials, so all four wheels can work together to power your ride. In addition, Multimatic also supplies hydraulic front and rear bump stops, which Chevy refers to as Jounce Control Dampers, to help you handle more aggressive off-roading. The truck’s AEV bumper decreases its approach angle from 38.6 to 38.2 degrees, boasts an improved breakover angle of 26.9 degrees, and a departure angle of 26.0 degrees.

If you end up with a flat tire, The ZR2 Bison features a bed-mounted spare tire carrier that includes a full-size tire and a matching wheel. The space keeps the spare tire vertical and tucked as close to the cab as possible, keeping it discrete and allowing for full use of your cargo space.

On the inside, you’ll enjoy comfortable, Bison-specific cloth upholstery or AEV-branded leather interior with yellow stitching, yellow seat belts, and AEV-designed underbody cameras fixed by the transmission for front and rear views of the truck.
