From tough jobs to weekend adventures, the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado is built to deliver. Whether you're towing a trailer across South Carolina or hauling gear for your next project, this midsize truck packs the muscle and versatility you need to get the job done.

At Legacy Chevy in Greenwood, SC, we know you need a truck that works as hard as you do. Here, we’ll break down the towing capacity, payload specs, and drive modes that make the 2025 Colorado a powerhouse Chevy midsize pickup.

Engine Options

The 2025 Colorado WT and LT trims come standard with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that provides 237 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the higher trim Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 models come standard with a TurboMax 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 310 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This engine is available as an upgrade on the WT and LT trims.

Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and a Tow/Haul mode. This transmission uses specific shift points to optimize power delivery when accelerating with a heavy payload or trailer. Engine compression helps with slowing down, reducing reliance on the braking system.

Towing Capacity

The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado boasts impressive towing capabilities. When properly equipped, the WT and LT trims can tow up to 3,500 pounds, while the TurboMax engine offers a best-in-class towing capacity of 7,700 pounds.

The WT and LT trims have a max payload capacity of 1,684 pounds, and the Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trims can handle up to 1,587 pounds. The bed can support up to 1,000 pounds, so whatever you need to haul, the Colorado is up to the challenge.

To make towing even easier, all trims come with a hitch guidance system, which helps align the trailer and hitch as you back up. The available trailering package includes features such as a 2-inch receiver hitch with four-pin and seven-pin connectors, a seven-wire electrical harness and seven-pin sealed connector for trailer lights, a four-way sealed connector, an automatic locking rear differential, an integrated brake controller, and an in-vehicle trailering app.

Suspension and Drive Modes

The Colorado's drivetrain and suspension options provide enhanced performance. Rear-wheel drive comes standard on the WT and LT trims, while four-wheel drive is standard on the higher trims and optional on the two lower trims. The independent front suspension provides a smooth ride, while the solid rear axle with leaf springs is designed for off-roading.

The WT and LT trims have an open rear differential for highway driving, while the Trail Boss and Colorado Z71 trims offer a limited-slip differential for automatic traction on slippery surfaces. The ZR2 trim has power-locking front and rear differentials for maximum grip on tough terrain.

The four lower Colorado trims are equipped with a Drive Mode Select terrain driving system, which features Terrain, Off-Road, Tow/Haul, and Normal modes to assist in navigating challenging driving conditions. The ZR2 trim also offers a Baja drive mode for added traction and stability when navigating silt and sand.
